At J-Crew Jiu Jitsu, we offer kids and adults classes for beginners as well as advanced practitioners. Our school welcomes all styles of grappling and focuses on both hobbyists and competitors alike. Whether you're looking to learn self-defense, compete, get in better shape or learn a new skill, we welcome you onto our mats to train with us.
J-Crew Jiu-Jitsu Kids curriculum involves learning fundamental wrestling, guard techniques, submission holds and self defense. Kids classes age ranges from 5 to 16 years old. Classes and sparring groups are separated by age, weight, and skill level.
J-Crew Jiu-Jitsu Adults curriculum focuses on a combination of self-defense, takedowns, submissions, escapes and sweeps, as well as positional drilling and sparring with partners. Classes are structured to accommodate both beginners and advanced skill levels.
Coach Josh started his grappling journey in 2004 where he helped coach Combatives in the United States Air Force from 2004 to 2010. Additionally, he trained Taekwondo for 10 years where he earned his Black belt under the Korea Taekwondo Association. Coach Josh is Copper certified under the USA wrestling National Coaches Education Program and SafeSport Certified.
Coach Josh started his Jiu-Jitsu journey in 2017 under the Pedro Sauer Association where he earned his blue belt under Professor John Carlquist in 2019. In December of 2023, coach Josh was promoted to brown belt under 6th degree Royler Gracie Black Belt Professor Cristiano Riberio. Coach Josh is also an avid competitor and has over 100 jiu jitsu matches, winning multiple local grappling events under Grappling Industries and winning one IBJJF World title at Masters International. Additionally, Coach Josh captured 3 gold medals at the 2023 IBJJF Denver Open and is an IBJJF Master Worlds and American Nationals silver medalist.
Coach Maylean started training Jiu-Jitsu in 2017 alongside her husband, Coach Josh. In 2023, she earned her Brown Belt under 6th Degree Black Belt Professor Cristiano Ribeiro. She’s an avid competitor and has over 100 grappling competition matches and has a won multiple IBJJF titles, including: Pan American Champion, Master Worlds Champion, No-Gi Worlds Champion, Masters International Champion and 2x American National Champion. She’s also won numerous local IBJJF and Grappling Industries tournaments, several Super Fights and is an ADCC Open Gold/Silver medalist. Maylean Johnson is also the only competitive female Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Brown belt in the Logan/Northern Utah area.
Coach Maylean and Coach Josh have been married for 16 years and have lived in Cache Valley since 2016. They have a 15-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter (who also do Jiu-Jitsu). Coach Maylean loves sharing the mats with her family, friends, teammates and students whenever she can and loves sharing her passion of Jiu-Jitsu with her community.
